Stephen McDonnell’s path into construction began long before TrueNorth Remodeling was founded. As a teenager, he started his first business providing lawn care and landscaping services throughout his community. What began as a small high school operation quickly grew as word spread about his reliability, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.

During Michigan winters, that business expanded into interior remodeling, home maintenance, and snow removal. Those early projects gave Stephen his first exposure to the craftsmanship, problem-solving, and responsibility that come with improving people’s homes.

It was during this time that he developed a lasting passion for construction and real estate.

At 23, after several years of building and operating the business, Stephen made the decision to sell the company he had started as a teenager in order to pursue construction full time and gain experience operating at a much larger scale.

Shortly after, he joined Power Home Remodeling, which has since grown into the largest exterior home remodeling company in the United States.

At Power, Stephen quickly distinguished himself as a leader within the organization. He rose through the ranks into roles including Installation Manager and Field Installation Manager, where he was responsible for managing dozens of installation teams, mentoring contractors, and overseeing millions of dollars in residential remodeling work.

During his time there, Stephen helped pilot several operational initiatives designed to improve installation quality, contractor partnerships, and production efficiency. He was selected to participate in advanced leadership development programs and training initiatives across multiple markets, contributing to operational improvements and team development efforts.

Stephen also played a key role in contractor hiring, onboarding, and training programs, working closely with installation crews to improve quality standards, strengthen relationships, and develop long-term partnerships across the installation network.

Over the course of his career at Power, Stephen worked on thousands of remodeling projects and helped implement operational systems that improved efficiency, quality control, and contractor performance.

Those experiences ultimately shaped the philosophy that would later become the foundation of TrueNorth Remodeling.

Stephen saw firsthand that the best outcomes in remodeling always come from the same three things: exceptional craftsmanship, clear communication, and genuine care for the homeowner.

Yet too often in the remodeling industry, those values are missing.

TrueNorth Remodeling was founded to bring those principles back to the center of the remodeling experience.

The name TrueNorth reflects the company’s guiding principle: a commitment to always move in the right direction — toward integrity, precision, and doing what is best for the homeowner.

Today, TrueNorth Remodeling focuses on delivering high-quality exterior remodeling services including roofing, siding, windows, doors, and trim systems. Every project is approached with the same mindset that shaped Stephen’s career: precision in the work, transparency in the process, and respect for the home and the people who live in it.

For Stephen, remodeling is more than construction.
